Results

Today, Tuesday January 19 bond was granted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is such great news!  Thank you all so much for all your prayers, support, and love!  Thank you, thank you thank you!  We will keep you updated on what is going on as soon as anything new comes up!  YAYYYY!

Bond Hearing

UPDATES:  A second bond hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, January 19.  Prayers are in much need as well as fingers and toes crossed.  Thank you all and we will keep you updated as soon as we find something out!

Denied

Christmas Eve Morning – Dan and I stood outside of Broward Transitional Center where Kami’s bond hearing was being held.  Like around 20 other detainees, his hearing was scheduled for 8:30 a.m.  An hour went by and we still had heard nothing.  But in that time frame there were about four lawyers who walked straight to families with a a smile on their faces.  All saying, “He must be in the holiday spirit, because he is granting bonds today”.

Around 10:10 a.m. the lawyer finally walked out.  This is the verdict:  Kami’s bond hearing was denied for not having a passport.  The judge never grants anyone a bond without a passport but we figured since Kami didn’t have one he would fall into a special circumstances category.  The judge told Kami he would need to obtain a certified copy or an original of either his mothers passport or her naturalization papers and bring it back.

So now the next step to get him out is to obtain those documents, file yet another bond hearing, bring those documents with us, determine the expense of his bond and settle it.

Indeed this is good news; however, we were looking for a little bit of better news.  But as always, we will look at this with the glass half full.

A Decision

REOPENED

Today, November 30,2009 after 99 days of being in Broward Transitional Center with nothing new, we FINALLY got a decision!  His case in Virginia at the Board of Immigration Appeals has been REOPENED! This is our first step!  In Kami’s words, “God is Good”.  And as Kami’s own lawyer said, “I am fully convinced that the outpouring of support shown to Kami throughout this ordeal helped sway the opinion of the immigration judge”.  And it is because of all of you.  Thank you so very much for the tremendous support and love.

His fight is not however over yet.  We still have a tough fight ahead of us.  Now that it is reopened, the next step is to get him out of BTC -whether it is through a bond hearing or any other way.  After that, he will have a court appearance which will ultimately decide his fate.  Prayers and wishes are still in much need.

Dear Friends,

It’s been 80 days that I am stuck in this jail and I cannot tell you guys how hard that time would have been without each and every one of you all’s love and support out there.  I just wanted to let you all know that I love you all and I am thankful and humbled to have so many amazing people in my life.  God bless everyone.  I am looking forward to seeing all you guys again on the other side of these cold walls.
